My Favourite Childhood Toys

Scrappy Jessi is hosting "Favorite childhood Toys" today and I had a great time preparing for this.

I found Google to be a great place to find what I needed and have really enjoyed finding pictures of some of the toys I played with as a child. It was definitely a nice walk down memory lane.

Here are a few pictures of me with some of my early toys
Karen's Toys
Miss Emma is one doll that I still have. She was refurbished about 10 years ago and is approximately 55 years old. The poor dear lived in a box for a very long time.

My very favourite toy was my doll house. I would play with it whenever I could and was so please to find a picture of one like I had.

Another thing I liked to do was roller skate. I would spend hours skating over at the school yard and always wore the key around my neck on a shoe string.
Key and Rollar Skates

Skipping rope and playing with a rubber ball was also something I liked to do. We had little songs that we sang while playing with the rope or ball.

More Games...Chinese Checkers and a Yo-Yo

When I was in Grade one and two I played the triangle in the school band so my parents bought me one to play at home. And, of course everyone in my neighbourhood had a view master.

I also had a Campbell Soup doll that looked very much like this one. My mom had sent away soup labels and got the doll for me. I really wish I still had the doll.

A few other items that I really enjoyed playing with was my mother's button box and a kaleidoscope. I still like to play with both of these items.

I hope you have enjoyed coming along with me down memory lane.

That dollhouse is wicked cool. One of my friends had one like it and also they had one at the doctor's office so I really didn't mind going at all!

I just loved your old photos - I think, however, that I have a couple of years on you (1942 - 65 I AM!!) But, what I found so wonderful (don't giggle at the silliness) the icicles on your Christmas Tree!!! I think they were actually lead - and boy oh boy, nothing could hang as graciously as those babies!! I would give my arm for a source for those old icicles!! Nice to meet you!!! The Fan

firstly, i love those b & W photos, never kept any of my old toys..dont remember having much either, but i am sure my kids arent so keen to play toys nowadays with all those gameboy, PSP and computer games. At times, I had to chase them out of the house to play at the garden. Looks like you had a fabulous childhood.

big hug to you and happy weekend :)

What fun! I loved my view master too! One thing that really struck a cord were the old style roller skates. I had those too! I hated when the toe strap came off and the ankle strap stayed in place and clunked you on the ankle bone, OUCH! The metal wheel would about jar your teeth loose but oh they were so much fun!

Love these!! We remember our mother's button box- a treasure trove of imagination!!!

I love the old pictures of you! I had the exact same doll house and the Chinese checkers too. My sisters & I used to make up goofy Chinese checkers games because we never agreed on the "official" rules!!

HopHopJingleBoo said...

I'm late to the party 'cause I "had to" go to a scrapbook reteat this weekend. Thanks for stopping by my blog... I had a doll house just like yours too. Guess a lot of us ladies are the same age! Do you remember how the metal wheels on those skates used to make your feet numb from all the vibrating?
